How to Make Snow Paint: Winter Kids Activity

With 3 simple ingredients from your kitchen you can make SNOW PAINT for kids to make snow COLORFUL and CHEERY all winter long.

Make homemade paint for snow so your kids can use your whole yard as a canvass. Winter art never looked so cool before! It will be a winter art experience they won’t forget. This homemade paint recipe is made with 3 ingredients, gets loaded into empty spray bottles, and is used to paint snow, snowmen, snowballs, and anything else snowy!

My kids can’t get enough of this activity which is wonderful because it gets them outside to play during winter. Seriously, they have stayed busy for hours, talk about an amazing boredom buster and now I love going outside because we are the house with the snow-painted yard…no more white snow. It’s awesome!

While outside this winter you should also try SNOW BUBBLES because blowing bubbles in the snow is totally surprising!

How to Make Snow Paint

Supplies:

• 2 Tbs Cornstarch
• 2 C water
• Empty spray bottles
• Food Coloring
• Bowl and Spoon
• Funnel (optional)

Directions:

For your convenience, you can watch our video tutorial, read the directions, and print them out (found below the directions section).

Mix the cornstarch and water together until it looks like milk. It will feel thick at the bottom until all the cornstarch is mixed in.

Add the food coloring in and stir.

Carefully pour the mixture into the spray bottle.

Repeat for different colors.

To paint the snow have kids spray the bottles aiming close to the snow. We liked the spray setting (vs. stream setting) the best for adding lots of color with the adjustable nozzle twisted slightly tighter.

The kids had fun seeing how far they could spray, trying to color our whole yard, and painting snow creations like snowmen, snowballs, and snow angels.

If the cornstarch settles at the bottom in between uses just swish the spray bottles around until it is mixed in again. We keep ours in our garage so anytime my kids see the snow they can run out and give it some color…even if we are just headed to the store, lol.
