Today I am sharing our Letter P is for Peas crafts, activities, and printables for preschoolers and toddlers. We counted, worked on letters and numbers, and made a letter P craft (free printable template included below). The activities were inspired by two of our favorite books, LMNO Peas  and 1-2-3 Peas by Keith Baker. If you haven’t read these books with your kids you need too. They are fun, colorful, and very educational. 1-2-3 Peas counts from 1-20 then starts counting by 10’s and ends with 100 little smiling peas. LMNO peas is full of funny little peas with jobs and hobbies for each letter in the alphabet. You can see more of our Book Inspired Activities Here!

Directions:

1. Fill up the sensory bin with peas, then place letters or numbers inside and have child find them.I let my kids play in their sensory bins for awhile, and then we started talking about the letters and numbers.

My son (age 2) would find the letters or numbers and then we would name them. Eventually my son decided to ditch his sensory tools and used his hands. He loved hearing the peas being stirred around in his bin.

I gave my daughter (age 4) specific letters or numbers to find or I wrote down a small word and had her find all the letters in the word. It was a fun game, and a great way for her to practice sight words.

1.  Write numbers on the paper and have child count out the matching amount of peas and glue them onto the number.

This took a lot of concentration and counting. I wrote down numbers 1-20 and by the end my daughter was a pro at counting to 20 and was proud to have her craft hung on the refrigerator. You could do any numbers you like and could split this activity into different sessions if your child gets tired of counting.

Being able to see the number of peas on each number is a great way to visually see the difference between number amounts.
