This month I have joined up with some of my favorite bloggers to share with you arts ‘n craft ideas created with vegetables. Since my kid’s and I love mini bell peppers, we decided to cut up a few and use them to paint. Bell peppers are the perfect shape to use as bug body and bug wings stamps!

My son (age 2) did this craft really quickly, and we ended up with more of bell pepper painted swirls. My daughter took her time and stamped as many bugs as she could on her paper. When we were decorating our bugs my daughter asked why I only gave some of them one eye. I used this as a time to talk about perspective. Some of the bugs only have one eye because they are walking towards the edge of the paper and we are looking at the side of their face. We turned our heads and looked at each other to see an example in real life. Then my daughter looked at her picture and decided which way each of her bugs was looking. She really enjoyed this new piece of knowledge.

Supplies:
Mini bell peppers
Craft paint
Craft paper
Markers
Googly eyes
Glue

Directions:
1.  Cut the bell peppers in half, dip the freshly cut part in the paint, and use it to stamp a bug body on the craft paper. Once you have stamped enough bugs, let the paint dry.

2.  Glue googly eyes on each bug, and use the markers to decorate them. We practiced writing the number 3 to make a wing shape. My daughter loved decorating her “silly scary bugs!”
