I set up this simple activity in just a few minutes and my kids loved playing it! It was fun watching my son (age 2) learn his colors and practice his sorting. I added a bit of gross motor play to our color sorting activity to get some wiggles out while we played and learned.

My daughter would help her brother if he needed assistance after patiently waiting for him to make his choice. I have to say one of my favorite parts of doing activities with my kid’s is watching them learn and help each other.

Spread out the colored paper and put the toys in a pile or basket. Have the child close their eyes and pick a toy out of the basket and put it on the paper that matches the color.

nce all the toys are sorted let the child explore the toys. My son started stacking things up and building towers by color. After a bit I gathered all the toys and we played again. (You can’t tell in the picture but my son has no pants on. I gave up this day on trying to keep them on, he thinks it’s so funny to take them off and run around in his diaper. He is all about being silly :).

To add some gross motor play to this activity I put the kid’s chairs at the other end of the room, so once they picked their toy they had to run across the room and place it on the paper and then run back and sit in their chair. You should have heard all the giggles as they ran around the room.
