With Valentine’s Day coming up soon I wanted to start planning our activities for February. I combined a 10-frames set with an adorable Valentine’s day cupcake and number tracing to make a free math set we can use all month long. I also included a blank cupcake so you can come up with your own activities (I would love to hear how you used this printable set in the comments.) Conversation Hearts fit perfectly on the frames to make math time extra sweet, but as always I recommend using whatever you have on hand (make things easy on yourself :).

I wanted to make the printable adaptable for my two kids who are at different stages in their education (age 3 and 5). My son is still learning to recognize his numbers while working on one to one correspondence and my daughter will be able to improve subitizing (ability to see items and know how many there are without counting). There is also a spot on the printable for children to color on the number (I chose not to use a dotted trace line on this printable because I wanted the number to stand out).

To prepare the printable for use I suggest cutting out the printables, laminating them, cutting them out again, and then letting kids use dry erase markers or crayons to write on them so they can be used over and over again. Graphics by Prettygrafik.com and RamonaM.

  1. My daughter loves playing pretend games like baking and her Math teacher told me incorporate numbers even when playing. Our pretend bakeshop will now have a new cup cake on sale. She can use it in placing orders. Thank you for this lovely and smart idea.
